An oak tree takes around eighty years to grow large enough to be made into a chair. It would make sense for the chair to be used for at least as long as it took the tree to grow. Even if that seems unrealistic, we believe in this principle.

“If you get too close, you burn. If you stray too far, you get lost.”

We are sometimes amazed by how little past experiences help us in the present. It should be easy to design a new chair after we have already designed so many. Nevertheless we always start again from scratch. It’s laborious and exhausting.

To do social design, you don’t have to go to Africa.

For us, design means articulating human desires and fears; it draws its power from humanity’s collective subconscious. In this sense, design is a cultural service to society. Design is a poetic discipline that is essential to the definition of human beings in the universe. Concepts such as ritual, culture and poetry lie at the heart of our work.
